大愚和尚について

Gensho Taigu

After studying at Komazawa University and Sojiji Temple, the head temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism, he earned a master's degree in literature from Aichi Gakuin University. He is a unique monk who has five faces: a monk, a businessman, a writer/lecturer, a therapist, and a karate practitioner. He embodies the idea of “being simultaneously a monk and layman while being neither at all.”
He grew up as a disciple of Fukugonji, a 540 year old Zen temple in Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture. He learned sutras at the age of 3, made his funeral debut at the age of 5, and was ordained as a monk at the age of 10. However, he rebelled against the harsh masters, formal traditions, and the pressure of being rumoured to be a “temple child” and left the temple.
He started his own business at the age of 32. With a desire to embody the spirit of benevolence and compassion, he launches multiple businesses and sets them in motion. However, once he realised that employee training is human training, he decided to return to the temple just before the age of 40. Passing on his business to his successors, he traveled to 23 countries around the world, including the Buddhist missionary route from India to Japan, and reconsidered his own role as a monk and the role of temples all together.
In 2015, he became the 31st chief monk (called "Osho" in Japanese) of Fukugonji Temple. While working diligently for the rise of Fukugonji Temple and the creation of a temple community, he also uses his unique approach to teach people the “way of life” and “work style” learned from Buddhism through Busshin Sougakuin (Online Academy of Buddhas Heart), Taigu Dojo (monthly lectures), books and articles, company seminars, YouTube, etc.
